SEAMEO BIOTROP Supports Youth Innovation for a Sustainable Future at the Eco-Schools Terengganu International Virtual Symposium 2026

6 October 2026 — Prof. Dr. Edi Santosa, Director of SEAMEO BIOTROP, delivered remarks at the Eco-Schools Terengganu International Virtual Symposium 2026, held online from 6–8 October 2026 via Zoom. Under the theme "Youth Innovation for Green Entrepreneurship," the symposium is organized by the Green Growth Asia Foundation (GGAF) with the support and sponsorship of Yayasan PETRONAS.

The three-day symposium provides a platform for students and educators to showcase sustainability innovations, exchange good practices, and strengthen environmental learning through international educational exchange. The program brings together 50 Eco-Schools in Terengganu and international partner schools from Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, and India. In his remarks, Prof. Edi Santosa highlighted the importance of regional collaboration among schools in addressing shared environmental challenges, including biodiversity loss, waste and litter, and sustainable food systems. He encouraged young participants to take their ideas beyond the symposium by developing, testing, and improving innovative solutions that can create meaningful impacts for their schools and communities.

As a regional center of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO), SEAMEO BIOTROP remains committed to supporting regional cooperation in tropical biology, biodiversity, environmental education, and sustainability. Throughout the symposium, students present their sustainability projects under three key themes: Biodiversity and Nature, Food Systems, and Waste and Litter Management. The programme also promotes creativity, critical thinking, communication skills, environmental leadership, and awareness of how sustainability innovations can develop into practical and potentially entrepreneurial solutions.

SEAMEO BIOTROP’s participation in this regional platform reflects its commitment to strengthening cross-border educational collaboration and youth engagement in advancing a greener and more sustainable future.
