Certified Internship and Independent Study Jointly Held by SEAMEO BIOTROP and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia

The opening ceremony and students’ orientation event held on 31 August 2022 by SEAMEO BIOTROP marked the beginning of the Certified Internship and Independent Study Program (MSIB) Batch 3. The program is participated by 48 university students from 21 universities across Indonesia, as a support to the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka Program (MBKM) of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia.

 

During the orientation event, the participants were introduced to their mentors from SEAMEO BIOTROP and from their respective universities.  The orientation also explained the intership rules, learning achievements to gain the 20 credits and evaluation of internship activities. This certified internship and independent study  will last for 4 – 5 months starting from 18 August 2022 up to 31 December 2022.


This event was officially opened by the Director of SEAMEO BIOTROP, Dr Zulhamsyah Imran. “This certified internship and Independent Study is in line with one of SEAMEO BIOTROP’s mandates, namely capacity building for human resources, which is closely related to the certified internship program for preparing the students’ readiness to work in the business, industry and the academic professional world”, explained Dr Zulhamsyah.  The representative of MSIB coordinator from the Universitas Syiah Kuala, Prof  Dr  Ir  Muhammad Syukri, SSi, MT, IPM, ASEAN Eng. also stated that this event is an excellent chance to enrich knowledge and insight of the participants.


The theme of the certified internship and indepentdent study is “Ecosystem Management and Technology Utilization to Support the Maintenance of the Environment and Organisms” as a solution for biodiversity enhancement and preservation. The Batch 3 of the MSIB Program  offered five themes in 2022, namely: 1) Management of Environmental Quality Laboratory; 2) Seedlings Production using Tissue Culture Technology; 3) Managing and Utilization of Suboptimal Land in Tropical Regions; 4) Management of Tropical Biodiversity; and 5) Sustainable Urban Agriculture.  (asa, hcn).
