BIOTROP Enhances Sustainable Learning Framework Through Biodiversity Curriculum Workshop

Bogor, 3 October 2025 - SEAMEO BIOTROP conducted the Workshop on Biodiversity: Focused Discussion for Finalizing the School of Biodiversity Curriculum on 1–3 October 2025 at Novotel Bogor, featuring resource persons Prof Damayanti Buchori (IPB University), Mr Prayoga Rendra Vendiktama (Curriculum and Learning Center, Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education), Dr Rusdiono Muryanto (Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia), and Ms Risa Rosita (Manager of Science, Innovation and Technology Department, SEAMEO BIOTROP). The workshop gathered internal and external participants for presentations, focused discussions, and curriculum alignment.

The event opened with remarks from Dr Elis Rosdiawati, Deputy Director for Administration of SEAMEO BIOTROP, followed by Dr Doni Yusri, Deputy Director for Programs. The first session continued with Ms Risa Rosita presenting the Draft of the School of Biodiversity Curriculum, outlining program development since 2023 and its integration into intracurricular, extracurricular, and project-based learning pathways. Participants then joined expert-led sessions on curriculum structure, contextual biodiversity learning, and the development of teaching materials.

Prof Damayanti highlighted tropical biodiversity as the foundation for contextual and meaningful learning in sustainability education. Mr Prayoga outlined national curriculum directions, including climate change education and the required structure of learning documents in line with government standards. Dr Rusdiono explained principles of writing clear and structured teaching materials, while Ms Risa elaborated on BIOTROP’s contextual learning facilities, such as the mushroom teaching factory and essential oil teaching factory.

Participants contributed feedback on curriculum alignment, implementation strategies, and suitability for secondary education. Intensive group discussions produced revisions to curriculum components, learning outcomes, and implementation recommendations. On the final day, results were reviewed collectively to ensure consistency before moving into the document finalization stage.

The workshop concluded with agreement on the next steps for curriculum completion and teaching material development. SEAMEO BIOTROP reaffirmed its commitment to advancing sustainable education by strengthening the School of Biodiversity model as a platform for biodiversity literacy, environmental awareness, and contextual learning in schools.
