Jakarta, June 11, 2026. SEAMEO BIOTROP contributed to the SEAMEO Centre Policy Research Network, CPRN, Summit 2026 by presenting two research papers addressing environmental education, biodiversity conservation, community empowerment, and inclusive governance in Southeast Asia.
The CPRN Summit 2026 was held from June 9 - 11, 2026, at Mangkuluhur ARTOTEL Suites, Jakarta, Indonesia. Organized by SEAMEO CECCEP in collaboration with the SEAMEO Secretariat and SEAMEO Centres in Indonesia, the summit brought together researchers, policymakers, education practitioners, academics, civil society organizations, and development partners under the theme, “Bridging Research, Policy, and Practice: Pathways toward an Inclusive, Equitable, and Sustainable Future.”
In the parallel session, Dewi Suryani represented SEAMEO BIOTROP in presenting a paper entitled “Inclusive Geopark Transformation: Integrating Environmental Education, Community Empowerment, and Inclusive Governance for Sustainable Development.” The paper was co-authored by Doni Yusri, Dewi Suryani, Edi Santosa, and Saiful Bahri.
The presentation highlighted the importance of positioning geoparks not only as conservation areas, but also as inclusive learning spaces that integrate environmental education, local community participation, and collaborative governance. The paper emphasized that sustainable geopark development requires meaningful community involvement and equitable access to the social, educational, and economic benefits generated through conservation initiatives.
SEAMEO BIOTROP also presented a second paper entitled “Building A Biodiversity-Inclusive Future: Strengthening Biodiversity Education Through Regional Collaboration in Southeast Asia.” The paper was presented by Risa Rosita and co-authored by Risa Rosita, Doni Yusri, Edi Santosa, Elis Rosdiawati, Yoshikazu Tatemoto, Santisouk, Kiengkay, Hartini Mashod, Haji Norjemee Bin Jenek, Paryono, and Supriyanto.
The second presentation underscored the strategic role of regional collaboration in strengthening biodiversity education across Southeast Asia. It highlighted the need for knowledge exchange, cross-country partnerships, and context-sensitive learning approaches to foster environmental awareness and support biodiversity conservation among diverse communities.
Through these two research presentations, SEAMEO BIOTROP demonstrated its continued engagement in advancing evidence-based initiatives related to environmental sustainability, biodiversity education, and inclusive development. The participation also provided an opportunity to strengthen collaboration among SEAMEO Centres and regional stakeholders in responding to shared environmental and educational challenges in Southeast Asia.
