BIOTROP Opens Research Grants for Professionals, PhD Students and Youth Organizations for 2014

BIOTROP invites research proposals from staff of academic and research institutions, PhD students, and youth organizations for implementation in 2014 under its various programs, namely:  Joint Research Program, Youth Environmental Outreach Grants Program, and PhD Thesis Support Program.

The Centre’s Joint Research Program is aimed to promote scientific collaborations among government research and academic institutions towards addressing common development concerns among Southeast Asian countries along the program thrusts of SEAMEO BIOTROP.  These program thrusts are (1) Tropical Biology for Community Welfare; and (2) Tropical Biology for Environmental Integrity.  This is open to all nationals of SEAMEO member countries.  The research project being proposed must touch on a topic that addresses both needs of Indonesia and the country of the lead proponent and thus there should be components of the research activities that should be conducted also in both countries.

The Youth Environmental Outreach Grants Program is BIOTROP’s contribution to heighten the roles of the youth in helping realize the real values of tropical biodiversity for community welfare and environmental integrity.  It shall provide an opportunity for the youth to channel their creativity, energy, and interest into more productive development -oriented activities for the benefit of the environment and the communities they live in.  For its pilot implementation next year, the program is only open to youth organizations in Indonesia.

On the other hand, BIOTROP’s PhD Thesis Support Program has been ongoing since 2011.  It is aimed to increase the number of qualified human resources in higher learning institutions and government agencies where the grantees are affiliated with the expectation that they would contribute to the development of Indonesia in the area of tropical biology and natural resources management.  This program is only open to Indonesian nationals.

Deadline for submission of proposals for all the programs is on 31 May 2013.  Proposals must be submitted to SEAMEO BIOTROP Deputy Director for Programs Dr. Jess C. Fernandez either via email (j.fernandez@biotrop.org) or courier addressed to SEAMEO BIOTROP, Jalan Raya Tajur, Km 6, Bogor 16134, West Java, Indonesia.
