Bogor, 2 February 2026 — The Southeast Asian Regional Centre for Tropical Biology (SEAMEO BIOTROP) officially commenced the onboarding of its first 2026 Capstone Internship Program on 2 February 2026. This Strategic initiative involves 23 undergraduate students from 12 universities across Indonesia, aiming to provide hands-on professional experience while strengthening BIOTROP’s contributions to research, development, and information dissemination in the environmental field at both national and international levels.

Opening the onboarding session, Program Coordinator Ms. Tenni Wahyuni highlighted that the SEAMEO BIOTROP Capstone Internship is specifically designed to enable students to translate academic knowledge into real-world practice. She emphasized that the program also supports the institution’s mandate in advancing environmental research, development, and communication, while fostering young professionals who can represent BIOTROP positively in wider professional and academic arenas.

The welcoming atmosphere was further enriched by personal remarks from SEAMEO BIOTROP’s leadership. Deputy Director for Administration Dr. Elis Rosdiawati encouraged participants to actively explore, apply their knowledge, and collaborate throughout the internship to enrich their professional journey. She underscored the vital role of mentors in guiding and nurturing interns, noting the importance of creating a meaningful and supportive learning environment that positions SEAMEO BIOTROP as a leading destination for student internships.

Similarly, Deputy Director for Program Dr. Doni Yusri emphasized that interns are encouraged to take an active role as practitioners rather than remain passive observers. He highlighted the importance of developing critical thinking and enhancing collaborative skills, urging participants to fully utilize opportunities for dialogue and learning through close engagement with their respective mentors.

Throughout the duration of the program, participants will be assigned across a diverse range of BIOTROP specialized units, including the Human Resource and Administration Department, various research laboratories such as Tissue Culture Laboratory, Biotechnology, Weed and Herbarium, Biosystem and Landscape Management, Natural Products, as well as the Hydroponic Greenhouse, Edible Mushroom Cultivation Unit, and the Remote Sensing Laboratory. Participants in the Capstone Internship Program will be guided by experienced mentors with recognized expertise in their respective fields to ensure effective learning and professional development.

The onboarding session concluded with technical briefings and operational guidance to support participants throughout the internship period. Through structured orientation, mentorship, and motivational support, the Capstone Internship Program is expected to equip students with practical competencies while fostering the next generation of professionals committed to environmental sustainability and scientific advancement.
