Description
Dear Readers,
This October 2025 edition opens with the launch of SEMO, SEAMEO BIOTROP’s new mascot who serves as a conservation ambassador to strengthen public education on the importance of preserving biodiversity. SEMO’s presence symbolizes our renewed commitment to bridging science, learning, and community engagement.
In addition, we continue to implement various strategic initiatives. Through the Biodiversity Curriculum Workshop, BIOTROP supports the development of a more applicable biodiversity learning framework for teachers in the region. Regional collaboration has also been strengthened through the launch of the Agro-Eco Edu-Tourism Prototype in the Philippines with SEAMEO SEARCA, as well as SEASEL 2025 with Universiti Sains Malaysia in strengthening environmental leadership.
Our partnership with Kasetsart University has once again expanded the impact of urban farming training for conservation in Thailand. At the policy level, the preparation of a policy brief on food waste management in schools is an important step in linking field practices with policy recommendations. We also closed Capstone Internship Batch 2 with student presentations that demonstrated the great potential of the younger generation in environmental research. Meanwhile, the 63rd Governing Board Meeting in Bangkok reaffirmed BIOTROP’s strategic direction with member countries.
Thank you to all partners and stakeholders. May this collaboration continue to lead us towards a more resilient, sustainable, and environmentally conscious Southeast Asia.
Warm regards,
Dr. Elis Rosdiawati
Acting Director and Deputy Director for Administration SEAMEO BIOTROP
