Abstract :

Happy New Year to all our readers! I hope you all had a good start of 2019 like our Centre had!

For the first quarter, we took part in the exhibition activity of National Education and Culture Conference (RNPK) 2019 to present our knowledge and technology to communities. We are honored to have HE Ir. Joko Widodo, the President of Indonesia, visited our booth, accompanied by the Minister of Education and Culture, Dr Muhajir Effendy, MAP, during the exhibition.

We are also proud to be the pioneer in developing tissue culture technology on seaweed in Southeast Asia region. Through this breeding technology, we supported the development of seaweed industry in Central Sulawesi by holding a one-day workshop for 48 participants from various institutions in this province. We were glad to deliver positive impacts for the community.

In line with the Centre’s program thrust in conserving and sustainably using the ecosystem, we conducted our first Quarterly Public Seminar this year with the theme ‘Current Development of Mining Technology in Indonesia’. We shared the insight on how to restore the ex-mining land and its ecosystem biologically.

We were also proud to have Prof Arief Sabdo Yuwono having its technology called ‘Measuring Instrument of Industrial Smoke Concentration’ getting a patent certificate from the Directorate General of Intellectual Property of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of Indonesia. We hope that the tool can be utilized by related parties to keep our environment clean.

You will find a lot more exciting events in this edition of BIOTROP Courier, hopefully it can inspire us to keep going for more for the rest of 2019!
