Abstract :

As our commitments to the surrounding community, our stakeholders and our partner institutions, we increased our efforts to extend the technologies and knowledge on urban farming, hydroponics, tissue culture and mushroom culture by launching our Centre as Community Learning Park as well as by signing an MoU with Nong Lam University in Vietnam and with the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia. Focus Group Discussion on Mycorrhiza was also held with the Asosiasi Mikoriza Indonesia (AMI/ Indonesian Mycorrhiza Association) to develop a 5-year synergy collaborative research road map between BIOTROP and AMI to strengthen BIOTROP’s commitment on sustainably maintaining environment.

We are very proud on our tissue culture laboratory for producing the tissue culture technique to propagate cottonii seaweed. The seeds produced by our tissue culture laboratory have been used by many seaweed farmers throughout Indonesia. Under our MoU with the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries of Indonesia, we have provided technical assistance including seaweed plantlets to 8 Centres under the Directorate General of Aquaculture of the Ministry.

We delivered our presentation in the Fifth ASEAN Heritage Parks Conference, held our Fourth photo competition and Public Seminar on Peatland Management as our contribution to the biodiversity and tropical biology fields in ASEAN region.

This quarter we are visited by Dr Erdogan Memili, Associate Professor from the Mississippi State University who shared his expertise in efficient and effective writing to comply with international research proposal and publication. We are also enlightened by the keynote speech of Prof Dr Ocky Karna Radjasa on the policies produced by the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education of Indonesia regarding Incentive for International Scientific Writing and Research Proposal.

It is with great expectation that we accept the appointment of Dr Impron of the Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB/Bogor Agricultural University) as the new Head for the Study Program of Masters of Information Technology on Natural Resource Management.

Trainings on urban farming and catfish were also conducted as part of our commitment to community empowerment to achieve financially self-reliance community.

Congratulations to the two of our alumni for their extraordinary achievements in their current fields. We are very proud to have them back in our communication circle and hoping to have continuing collaborations with them and their institutions.
