BIOTROP Services Laboratory conducted a Training Course on Sampling Techniques and Interpretation of Environment Quality Tests Result for 21 laboratory technicians from  8 government and private laboratories and learning institutions on 14-16 April 2015 at the Centre’s  headquarter in Bogor.

BIOTROP conceptualized the training to be one of its regular offerings in response to the demand for using  appropriate procedures and sampling techniques for environmental sampling to obtain trusted and valid environmental quality data parameters.

In general, the training was aimed to enhance the participants’ knowledge and skills on sampling techniques and interpretation of environment quality test results from water, air and soil samples and also to share information about equipments for environmental sampling. After the training, the participants were  expected to be able to: (1) Determine environmental quality test sampling techniques and sampling points; (2) Prepare a sampling plan and sampling procedure for monitoring environmental quality; (3) Apply proper sampling procedure; (4) Implement proper sample handling to prevent sample damage until the end of the testing process; (5) Implement good practice in handling the sampling equipments.

BIOTROP tapped the expertise of Ir. Anwar Hadi from the Environmental Management Center (PUSARPEDAL) of the Ministry of Forestry and Environment of Indonesia and Dr Undang Kurnia from Indonesian Soil Research Institute (ISRI) of the Ministry of Agriculture to discuss the following topics during the training: (1) Sampling Techniques of Water and Air Testing; (2) Sample Planning, Determination of Sampling Points for Water and Air Testing Practicum; (3) Practicum on the Air and Water Sampling Techniques; (4) Result Interpretation of Water and Air Testing; (5) Soil Sampling Techniques; (6) Practicum on the Determination of Sampling Points and Sampling Techniques for Soil Fertility Testing; and (7) Result Interpretation of Soil Fertility Testing.

The  21 participants were from Akademi Kimia Analis, PT. Nusa Buana Citra, JOB Pertamina Talisman Jambi Merang, PT Hilab Scientama, PT Organo Science Laboratory, IPB Diploma, Conoco Philips and internal BIOTROP Services Laboratory.
