SEAMEO BIOTROP Trains Indonesian Researchers and Food Inspectors on Mycotoxin Prevention and Control in Food and Feedstuff - 851 time(s) visited

Twenty-four Indonesian participants completed SEAMEO BIOTROP’s 4th national training course on Mycotoxin Prevention and Control in Food and Feedstuff held on 9-12 June 2014 at the Centre’s headquarter in Bogor. They came from the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Industry, The National Agency of Drug and  Food Control, State Universities, and Perum Bulog.
   
The training course was aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of the participants in preventing and controlling mycotoxin contamination in food and feed stuff like   corn, peanuts, nutmeg, sorghum, flour, and other feeds.

The participants received lectures on (1) Isolation, enumeration, and identification of fungi infecting food and feedstuff; (2) Appropriate methods to prevent and control mycotoxin contaminations in food and feedstuff;  (3) Fungal identification using molecular biology technique;  (4) Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) in relation to prevention and control of mycotoxins;  (5) Method development and quality assurance on mycotoxin analysis;  (6) Fumigation as an alternative measure to control mycotoxins; and (7) Determination of mycotoxin contents using fluorometer and HPLC methods. They also practiced their skills on testing methods to identify fungi and mycotoxins using sophisticated equipment like HPLC and Fluorometer.

Resource persons during the training course were Prof. Dr. Okky Setyawati Dharmaputra and Ms. Santi Ambarwati, MSi from SEAMEO BIOTROP; Prof. Winiati Puji Rahayu and Dr. Utut Widyastuti from Bogor Agricultural University, Dr. Hariadi Halid, practitioner and expert on pest control warehouse; Mr. J. Tanadi, BSc from PT Radin Nugrah Daksatama; Mr. Ferdi Ferdian, STP from PT Berca Niaga Medika.
The training was conducted with support from PT Berca Niaga Medika as distributor of  Agilent  Liquid Chromatograph  and PT Radin Nugrah Daksatama as distributor of Vicam in Indonesia.
