Upon the request of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia, SEAMEO BIOTROP Director Dr. Bambang Purwantara presented the Centre’s special initiative to conduct its first international conference on tropical biology during the Third ASEAN Plus 3 Senior Officials’ Meeting on Education (SOM-ED) held on 29-30 November 2012 in Bangkok, Thailand.

The presentation  of the Centre’s conference was part of Indonesia’s commitment under the ASEAN Plus Three Plan of Action 2010-2017 in terms of supporting collaborative research activities and exchange of experts, researchers and scholars among the ASEAN Plus Three countries.

SEAMEO BIOTROP’s conference generally aims to provide the venue for academicians, technologists, reearchers, students, entrepreneurs, and policy makers worldwide to exchange experiences and communicate new perspectives and opportunities on the  theme “Enhancing and Promoting the Real Values of Tropical Biodiversity of Southeast Asia.”  It will welcome paper and poster presentations that would touch on two major sessions, namely:  Tropical Biology for Community Welfare and Tropical Biology for Environmental Integrity and cutting accross  agro, forest and coastal/wetland ecosystems.

The deadline for submission of abstracts is on 22 February 2013.
