Twelve games for teaching biology to high school students were developed by the 26 participants who completed the Training Course on Designing Games Using RPG Maker held on 17-21 January 2011 at SEAMEO BIOTROP headquarter in Bogor.  The training was a joint offering between the Centre and the SEAMEO Regional Open Learning Centre (SEAMOLEC).

The 7-day training was aimed to improve the quality of teaching and learning in biology through educative games as instructional media toward a more interesting learning atmosphere for high school and college students, and teachers as well.

During the opening program, Dr. Bambang Purwantara, BIOTROP Director, expressed his appreciation to SEAMOLEC for sharing its expertise in developing games for teaching purposes.  He considered the collaboration as a significant entry point to improving teaching of biology and other sciences in the institutions where the participants were affiliated.

Outputs of the participants were presented during the last day of the course. During the closing program, Mr. Ith Vuthy, M.Sc, SEAMOLEC Deputy Director for Programs, congratulated the participants for the games they developed.  He also provided tips on how the participants can improve the games and make them more interesting and relevant to their target audience. Mr. Ith Vuthy recognized the game developed by Dewi Rahmawati and Herni Widhiastuti, both BIOTROP staff, as the best game in the training course.

The training participants consisted of junior and senior high school teachers from Bogor, college students from Institut Pertanian Bogor, and staff of BIOTROP and SEAMEO QTEP for Language.

Resource persons from SEAMOLEC were Mr. Cahya Nugraha, Mr. A.Md and Mr. Prayitno, S.ST.  Dr. Hartrisari H of BIOTROP served as the overall training coordinator.
