Community development is one of the activities of corporate social responsibility (CSR) to empower people in supporting themselves to fulfill their daily needs.  Karawang International Industrial City (KIIC) as an industrial zone has the obligation to develop the surrounding community.

In empowering   the community living around the industrial zone, there is a need for KIIC to cooperate with other institutions.  Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) together with  Indonesia-based SEAMEO Centers (BIOTROP, SEAMOLEC

and TROPMED RCCN of the University of Indonesia) will cooperate with KIIC in empowering the community of  ‘desa telaga’, a pilot project in the field of education, nutritional health, and economic improvement of the community under the supervision of PT Harapan Anang Bakri & Sons, Telukjambe District, Karawang Regency.

The community of ‘desa telaga” as pilot project are equipped with agribusiness skills covering catfish culture, horticulture, duck farming, medicinal plants and annual crops.  IPB and SEAMEO BIOTROP scientists have the expertise in agriculture and tropical biology ,  SEAMEO TROPMED RCCN UI   in public health and nutrition, while SEAMOLEC in the use of information technology and communication for education. These institutions will become a solid team to empower the community of Telukjambe, Karawang.

Therefore, the KIIC, IPB, BIOTROP, SEAMOLEC and TROPMED  Memorandum of Understanding  was signed on 23 July 2009 at BIOTROP Bogor.  The signatories of the Memorandum of understanding agreed to enter into a collaborative agreement to be actively involved in community development of Telukjambe District, Karawang Regency.
