Seminar Discusses Remote Sensing and GIS Application in Global Warming Issue - 839 time(s) visited

BIOTROP EDC in collaboration with RCE Bogor and MIT Program of the Bogor Agricultural University has organized a one day seminar on Education for Sustainable Development: “Remote Sensing and GIS Application in Global Warming Issue” on 18 June 2009 at SEAMEO BIOTROP, Bogor.  The seminar was attended by about 90 Indonesian participants which of most are graduate students.

This seminar intended to present an opportunity for government, scientists, private sectors and NGOs to discuss about the opportunities of GIS and RS Applications in Global Warming Issue. The main purpose of this conference is to provide an opportunity for discussion, development and applications to stimulate and inspire work in the domain of RS and GIS.

In his opening remarks BIOTROP Director, Dr. Bambang Purwantara expressed his concern about the status of global warming today.  In this case BIOTROP has been working together with SEARCA, INNOTECH and RECSAM.  

The following four reports were presented and discussed in two sessions;
Session 1:
•    “Government Policy Toward Global Warming Issue in Indonesia”, by Dr. Dodo Gunawan, Meteorological Climatological andGeophysical Agency (BMKG), Jakarta
•    “Remote Sensing, GIS and Model for Coastal Zone Management”, by Dr. Ibnu Sofian, National Coordinating Agency for Surveys and Mapping (BAKOSURTANAL), Bogor Km 46
Session 2:
•    “GIS and Climate Change”, by Fitri Wahid, S. Hut., MA, PT ESRI, Indonesia
•    “Tools Behind the Accurate Analysis”, by Ir. Busroni Arif Yanto, P.T. Almega Geosystems

Moderators for sessions 1 and 2 were Dr. Hartrisari and Dr. Vincentius Siregar, respectively.
