46th SEAMEO BIOTROP Governing Board Meeting Conducted in Manila - 28 time(s) visited

The 46th Governing Board Meeting of SEAMEO BIOTROP was held on 22-24 October 2008 at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Manila, the Philippines. The meeting was attended by eight GB members/representatives from Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. The Governing Board members from Brunei Darussalam and Vietnam were not present. The opening ceremony was graced by the presence of the ambassadors of Vietnam, Norway and the representative of the Indonesian Embassy in Manila.

H E Dr Datu Jesli A Lapus, Secretary of Education of the Philippines welcomed the GB Members and officially declared open the meeting. At the opening of the meeting, SEAMEO BIOTROP Center Director, Dr Ir Handoko; the Chairperson of the GB, Mr. Soe Win Hlaing from Myanmar; and SEAMEO Secretariat Deputy Director for Administration and Communication Dr Tinsiri Siribodhi delivered their remarks.

Nine working papers on various topics such as progress and financial reports, budgets, programmes and projects were presented by the SEAMEO BIOTROP Director and his team. Meanwhile, eight info papers were presented for information of the Board.
Most of the reports and presentations were done in plenary, while some working papers were tackled in an in-camera session. On the third day, cultural visits to SEAMEO INNOTECH, SEAMEO SEARCA and the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) were conducted.

The next 47th SEAMEO BIOTROP Governing Board Meeting will be held in Indonesia in October 2009.
