Junior High school educational tour includes BIOTROP laboratories - 919 time(s) visited

Some 117 students and teachers from the IPEKA Sunter Christian Junior High School in Jakarta visited SEAMEO BIOTROP as part of their educational tour last 24 October 2008.

A short program welcomed the students at the BIOTROP Matoa Room, before the campus tour. The program was opened by Ms. Tenni Wahyuni, General Administration Unit Assistant in her capacity as officer-in-charge representing the BIOTROP Board of Directors.

Ms. Yuni Puspitasari, Information Resources Unit Assistant, presented the BIOTROP programs and projects; Ms. Erina Sulistiani presented about biotechnology application in the tissue culture of teak; Ms. Dewi Rahmawati presented about basic biotechnology; Ms. Ina Retnowati presented an overview of fungi.

The visit ended with a tour around the tissue culture laboratory including the teak nursery. Erina Sulistiani M.Si., Manager of Tissue Culture Laboratory Services informed them about Tissue Culture of teak in Laboratory Services; Ms. Herni from BrMC informed the group about Tissue Culture in Bioresources Management Centre and Ms. Lilis from BrMC led them to the teak nursery. Acted as a tour operator were Ms. Tika Tresnawati and Mr. Luki Febrian. SEAMEO BIOTROP usually hosts field visits of students and teachers. Other scientists also provide resource talks to visiting students, as required by the group.
