The Southeast Asian Regional Centre for Tropical Biology is one of the 24 specialist centres of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO), an intergovernmental organization whose purpose is to promote cooperation in education, science and culture in the region. The Centre envisions itself to be “A Leading Centre in enhancing and promoting the real values of tropical biology in Southeast Asia” through its four mandates, namely: research, capacity building, information exchange, and community development.

Quality publications and other media materials are critical to the Centre’s information exchange mandate which is a major responsibility of an editor under the Knowledge Management Department (KMD). In general, the Centre’s KMD produces both technical and popular publications such as a tri-annual Scopus indexed international journal of tropical biology, quarterly newsletters, special publications (books, monographs, international conference/regional seminar proceedings, manuals, annual reports, brochures and leaflets). It also produces news articles that highlights completed as well as forthcoming events which are uploaded in the Centre’s website and also sent to media outfits as press releases.

SEAMEO BIOTROP needs a qualified editor to sustain its quality information exchange function. The editor will be working under KMD’s Information Management headed by a supervisor with the following qualifications:

  1. Male/Female, not more than 35 years old
  2. University degree (S1) in communications, journalism or English with minimum GPA 3.00 (scale: 4.00); a postgraduate degree would be an advantage
  3. Proficiency in the usage of both English and Indonesian languages
  4. Minimum of 3-year experience in editing technical and popular publications both in English and Indonesian languages
  5. Proficiency in writing and interpersonal communication skills in both English and Indonesian languages
  6. Solid understanding and working knowledge on publication processes particularly journal publication
  7. Proven ability for accuracy and good judgement under pressure, and adherence to deadlines
  8. Proficiency in using computer and Microsoft programs and familiarity with online publication
  9. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and motivate co-workers at all levels of the organisation
  10. Proven ability on media relations as well as having media linkages
  11. Preferably with basic knowledge in topics related to tropical biology, environment, and biodiversity management
  12. NON SMOKER and WILL NOT SMOKE in BIOTROP environment
  13. Has no kinship or relationship with active staff of BIOTROP
